Best things to do in Corralejo.

North of the island is much quiter and slightly more windy than the southern coast. It’s quite funny the two most spectacular National Parks – Corralejo Dunes Natural Park and Jandia Nature Park are located on two tales of the island on the north and south side. After exploring the north for days, these are the most fascinating things to do in Corralejo but generally the place is a natural wonder with kilomteres of wild beaches and desert landscapes facing deep blue ocean.

  • Walk the Sand Dunes
  • Go for a day trip to Lobos Island
  • Hang around Corralejo old town near the harbour

Corralejo Natural Park & spectacular Sand Dunes.

Corralejo Dunes Natural Park is 2,600 ha desert of unspoiled white sand dunes. It’s a unique natural wonder of Fuertaventura Island and true Canary Archipelago treasure. There is no entry fee and the park is open for walkers and hikers.

Car parking is possible along the road with many spaces, however in peak season it may be difficult to find a spot with a very popular surfing beach on the other side of the road.

Go for a popular Quad or Buggy Safari Tour across the sand dunes is a great fun and unforgettable adventure!

Fuerteventura International Kite Festival in Corralejo.

One of the most spectacular, internationally recognized annual event – Kite Festival is organized in Corralejo beach. In November 2023 it had its 33 edition. Professional and amateur kite owners from all over the world gather to showcase their passion for kite flying. The 7-day festival spreads across Corralejo white sand beach and El Cotillo Beach.

Watching all these incredible, colourful kite creaters carried by winds of Fuerteventura is really in an unforgettable experience. There’s lots of food stalls on the beach, which makes it a great option for a day trip.

Corralejo Old Town & Harbour.

Corralejo port town used to be a small fishing village. Now the place is buzzing with beach bars and seaside restaurants. Walk the streets of the old town called ‘casco viejo’, situated near the harbour.

Visit unique Lobos Island.

Trip to Lobos Island cannot be missed! It is definitely one of the best things to do in Corralejo – adventurous and pleasantly relaxing ferry tour to another natural wonder of Canary Archipelago.

Lobos Island is easily accessible from Corralejo – it is only 15 minutes ferry trip, as the island is located 2 kilomteres from Fuerteventura shores. Ferry ticket cost around $16 but more importantly you need to obtain FREE LOBOS PASS before going. Lobos Island is a Natural Park with limited number of visitors up to 400 daily.

Hiking adventure near Corralejo.

Corralejo is perfect starting point for number of volcano hikes. One of the most spectacular hiking route is Calderon Hondo. I hiked every peak in Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Tenerife ;))) Along with Cofete hike and the highest peak of Fuerteventura – Pico de la Zarza, Calderon Hondo volcano trail is equally spectacular. I took a bus to Lajares and hiked back toward Corralejo along all the calderas on the photo. It’s a 12 kilometres hike, but if you feel tired enough you can only hike Calderon Hondo, or still take the long route and skip hiking top of the volcanoes but follow a flat path around each caldera.

Don't miss Lanzarote Tour with Wine Tasting.

Lanzarote island is another magnificent island to discover with Timanfaya National Park as top attraction. Going on a day tour along Lanzarote highlights and wine tasting can be a very relaxing way of exploring the neighboring volcanic island.

Enjoy exceptional local cuisine.

Spanish food is beyond compare. Canary Island cuisine is even better.. I’m very positive saying that. It’s mostly based on ocean delights (sea food) and it’s regional – and what’s most important always freshly cooked! There was only one time I was dissappointed with food in Corralejo harbour – Sotavento restaurant – avoid (the only great thing there was the service)! Not worth to bother with this place despite fabulous location, there’s plenty of other delicious local restaurants around. Tasting local cusine is definitely the one of the most enjoyable and best things to do in Corralejo, so ¡buen provecho!

Local dishes you MUST TRY:

  • Sea food paella with black rice,
  • Sea food soup (really delicious in most restaurants),
  • Goat stew – local speciality – Fuerteventura is also called Goat Island. I’m vegetarian for 15 years, so can’t recommend myself but people say it’s class dish,
  • Fried goat cheese in french cake with home made jam,
  • Pimiento de Padron – fried green peppers – Spanish speciality (I could eat it 3 times a day!)
  • Grilled mussels with garlic butter,
  • Sea food tagiatelle in tomato sauce,
  • Fried prawns with garlic or grilled fish (catch of the day) is standard,
  • Cost od each dish rates between $15-$22.
