My first solo traveling experience was 15 years ago, when I departured to hike Java the Indonesian island. Budget and solo traveling is a trend that has been gaining popularity in recent years. More and more people are choosing to travel the adventurous way,

Here are a few reasons why solo traveling might just be the best decision you ever make.
First and foremost, the freestyle traveling gives you freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want. You don’t have to compromise or keeping up with a group.

Why to go solo traveling?

8 years ago I quit my job for one-way ticket to backpack across southeast Asia. The most incredible, instructive, unpredictable and fascinating adventure I could ever undertake. I visited 7 countries from the inside out, met wonderful people who visited me at home few years after the trip.

Safest Asian countries for solo traveling.

  • Japan,
  • China,
  • Taiwan,
  • Laos,
  • Korea,
  • Bali,
  • Sri Lanka.

Choosing the perfect destination for your solo trip.

Some countries are more suitable and friendly for solo travelers (these are outside of Asia):

  • Australia,
  • Portugal,
  • Iceland,
  • Switzerland,
  • Poland,
  • Macedonia.

How to prepare for solo traveling?

Solo traveling also offers a unique opportunity for self-discovery and personal growth, as you constantly organize things on your own (which trust me is not a hussle – there are plenty of local guides, agencies that are fantastic tour operatos and are widely used by all types of travelers0.

When you’re on your own in a foreign country, you’re forced to rely on yourself in ways you never have before.
Another benefit of solo traveling is the chance to meet new people and make unexpected connections. When you’re on your own, you’re more likely to strike up conversations with strangers and form friendships with people you might never have met otherwise. I met wonderful people during my travels and we are still in touch!

What to know before traveling to Vanuatu.

Visa requirements and Travel Restrictions!

Visa requirements change, so be well prepared before entering the country. I was denied entry for Vietnam, as I forgot to process my visa on time.

Make sure to check visa requirements and potential travel restrictions for the countries on your shortlist. Be aware of entry requirements, such as vaccinations or proof of funds, and factor in the time and cost involved in obtaining necessary documentation.

Staying informed about current political situations and safety advisories is also crucial for a hassle-free journey.

In some countries you will not be allowed to travel to some districts (Myanmar, Colombia) – that’s for your safety. In Myanmar it is not allowed to travel to the northern part of the country.

In Colombia traveling across the east part of the country requires yellow fever vaccination (which I got there for FREE!).

Cheapest travel destinations.

Consider the cost of living in prospective destinations to determine whether they align with your travel budget. Comparing factors like accommodation prices, transportation costs, and average meal expenses can help you gauge the overall affordability of a location.

Connectivity and Accessibility

When traveling alone, it’s important that you stay connected -in most countries free Wi-Fi is easily available, but a good idea is buing a local SIM card.

How to plan a solo trip?

Solo traveling can be a more budget-friendly option compared to traveling with others. When you are on your own, you have the flexibility to choose budget accommodations, transportation, and activities that suit your financial situation. You can also take advantage of last-minute deals and discounts without having to consult with anyone else.
For me solo traveling is truly the best way of exploring the world.

Don’t let fear hold you back. Take the plunge and discover the incredible benefits of traveling alone. You may just find that it is the most rewarding and transformative experience of your life.

How to start planning your trip.

I usually travel for months, exploring different countries. Few months ago I was traveling across Pacific Islands and to be honest I didn’t know about some of the coun tries at all before I even looked on the map. That’s how I visited New Caledonia (French territory).

MY FAVORITE TRAIN/FLIGHTS/ENTRY TICKETS BOOKING PLATFORM: Trip.com.

BEST ACCOMMODATION FINDER (Cheapest too): Agoda.com.

eSIM CARD: Drim SIM.

The jungle bungallow with a swimming pool was $15/per night. Amazing pool with a view over rice terraces in Bali was for free – you just need to order a meal. If you search you will still find gorgeous places to stay for less than $20/per night.

Pack smartly!

Create a packing list – covering all the essentials, from clothing and toiletries to electronics and travel documents. This list will help you stay organized and prevent you from forgetting any important items.

  • Choose the right luggage. Select a suitcase or backpack (highly recommended) that is lightweight, durable, and easy to maneuver. Consider the size restrictions for carry-on luggage on your chosen airline, as traveling with just a carry-on can save time and money by avoiding checked baggage fees.
  • Pack clothing. Choose clothes made of quick-drying, wrinkle-resistant materials that are suitable for various weather conditions. Don’t forget to pack a lightweight jacket or sweater for cooler evenings or air-conditioned spaces.
  • Use packing organizers. Utilize packing cubes, compression bags, or zip-lock bags to keep your belongings organized and save space in your luggage. It will be much easier to find items when needed.
  • Travel essentials kit: power bank, phone charger, charging cables, first aid kit, sun lotion, sun glasses, headphones, and any necessary medication.
4-day Iceland Laugavegur trail.

Plan your travel itinerary.

Search on Google for few must-see attractions, but do not focus to visit them all. They are usually overrated, crowded and overpriced. You’ll find plenty of amazing activities onsite.

Once you reach your destination visit local travel agencies, small tour operators to ask for best trip options.

TAKE A FREE WALKING TOUR! There is always a free tour available in every capital city. This is an excellent way to get to know the area and meet the unpredictable. It can also be a great opportunity to meet other solo travelers.

Don’t forget there’s time for exploration and relaxation! Don’t try to tick the boxes, try to recharge your batteries and soak in the atmosphere at a leisurely pace.
