Trat is one of my favourite provinces in Thailand, with its natural landscape, unspoiled by massive tourism. One of the biggest attractions in the area is Ko Kood Island (Ko Kut) – extremely popular for diving, snorkeling and backpacking.

If you are planning to cross land border with Cambodia, you need to reach Trat. Trat Province, with 52 large and small Islands, offers delightful scenery and a number of tranquil hideouts for beach and nature-lovers. Trat is also the primary launching point for trips to the popular Koh Chang island.

All these islands boast beautiful beaches, clear turquoise waters, and vibrant coral reefs, making them perfect for snorkeling, diving, and island-hopping adventures.

Best things to do in Trat Province.

Trat Province in Thailand is known for its natural beauty and offers several attractions and activities for visitors to enjoy. Here are some things to do in Trat Province:

  1. Laem Ngop, which offers a spectacular viewpoint and a tall lighthouse overlooking the sea, providing excellent photo opportunities,
  2. Scenic walking areas and hiking trails like the Salakphet Mangrove Walkway, which allow you to immerse yourself in the serene surroundings.
  3. Take a trip to Wat Plai Klong or Wat Buppharam, two important temples in Trat Province to learn about the local culture and admire their beautiful architectural styles and experience the local religious customs.

Explore Trat on a mototbike.

Best way to explore the area is renting a motorbike. Go visit the nearest lake, enjoy local bars, streetmarkets and jungle scenery. The lake is lovely, however in the dry season the level of water may be extremely low. There’s lots of restaurants in the area, where you can taste some local cuisine.

Where to stay in Trat?

Ban Jaidee guesthouse was an amazing place to stay, with wooden floors, stylish balconies and pleasant rooms. The hotel and guesthouses prices are very attractive:

Trat local cuisine.

Don’t forget to enjoy local cuisine – this is always my best part of exploring 😉 Trat is known for its fresh seafood, so make sure to indulge in some delicious local dishes. Visit local markets or seafood restaurants to savor specialties like grilled prawns, steamed sea bass, and spicy seafood curries. Can’t miss fruits such as rambutan, durian, and pineapple.

Whether you’re seeking relaxation on pristine beaches, outdoor adventures, or cultural experiences, Trat Province has something for everyone to enjoy.
