Yoyogi Park in Tokyo
On the way to Meiji Jingu (Meiji Shrine) I decide to visit Yoyogi Park. The autumn brings an amazing atmosphere and colors in this natural surrounding. When you look at the city map everything seems doalbe on foot, especially in the combination with increadible underground. But it is wrong! 🙂
Meiji Jingu Museum in Tokyo
Sightseeing the Meiji Jingu takes 3 hours. It’s strange that among all the trekking adventurous across Asia my feet injuries are the heaviest in Japan. I’m so fascinated by this country that I traverse more than 15 km every day.
People built Meiji Jingu, located in Shibuya district, for the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife. It has been totally damaged during II world war and reconstructed in 1958.
After that the Meiji Jingu Museum newly opened in October 2019. Museum is elegantly designed by star architect Kuma Kengo. There are personal items of the Emperor and Empress, as well as the carriage the Emperor rode in for the formal proclamation of the Meiji Constitution in 1889.
Meiji Jingu Temple
To reach the Temple you need to take a long walk surrounded by whole year’s green tries. There are 365 species of them and they planted while rebuilding the area. On the way to the temple there is a wall built from barrels of sake.
Meiji is one of the most popular temples in Japan. So it is particularly frequented during the first days of the New Year. On these days the temple receives more than three million visitors. They come to say the first prayers of the year (hatsumode). During the rest of the year people organise traditional Shinto weddings there.
