Indonesia has a special place in my heart from the beloved Asian continent. Every part of the country is unique and worth exploring, with Bali as the world’s top destination. Uluwatu may be known as the area with the finest surf breaks in Bali. But people overlook that Uluwatu also has some of the best places to eat on the island. From the unique setting to the most scrumptious meals, you shouldn’t worry about what to eat while exploring or staying in Uluwatu.
Bali cuisine is one of my favorites, it will spoil even the most demanding foodies. If you are looking to discover the best Uluwatu restaurants, this list is made for you. Get your pen and paper and put these places on your list to visit when in Bali.
The best Uluwatu restaurants.
Uluwatu is located on the southwestern tip of Bali. Some say it’s a hub filled with the most luxurious resorts and villas with stunning ocean views and excellent dining options.
Uluwatu is known for its diverse culinary scene. I highly recommend taking a culinary journey through Uluwatu restaurants. Here are a few amazing spots to satisfy your sophisticated palate.
1. The Cave by Chef Ryan Clift
The Cave by Chef Ryan Clift is easily one of the best restaurants in Bali. It was unearthed during villa construction and then turned into a world-winning restaurant. As the executive chef, Chef Ryan Clift has curated seven to ten dining courses to enjoy nature’s most stunning landscape, with stalactites and crescent walls around you.
The restaurant won the Best Luxury Fine Dining Experience at the 2022 Luxury Lifestyle Awards. The accolade is a testament to the excellence of the gastronomy dishes and the unique experience that The Cave provides. If you can secure a table, the restaurant will surely be a highlight of your dining experience in Uluwatu.
2. Yuki
Looking for some authentic Japanese dishes in Uluwatu? Taking the concept of modern Japanese Izakaya, Yuki is not just about those delicious Tuna Truffle Maki rolls. They also have charcoal grilled dishes and clay pot rice if you’re not a fan of sushi. Seriously, each dish at Yuki is as authentic as it is modern.
What’s interesting about Yuki is the building. Instead of going fully Japanese-inspired, they blend the Balinese style with the thatched roofs and semi-open dining areas. The open kitchen is quintessentially Japanese, giving you the best of both worlds. Perfect for a casual dinner or lunch, there is no need to look elsewhere if you crave Japanese food in Uluwatu.
3. La Baracca
For over a decade, La Baracca has been one of the best Italian restaurants in Bali. Born out of introducing family recipes, La Baracca is all about the Italian way of eating: fresh ingredients and savoring each bite. From the moment you come in, the eclectic decor and the garden in the back instantly make you feel familiar and cozy.
But at La Baracca, it’s all about the authentic Italian food. They have three different pizza doughs: La Romana, Classic Pizza, and Gluten Free. But whichever you choose, whether with or without tomato sauce, with added gorgonzola or burrata, the pizza at La Baracca is simply to die for. If you prefer the pasta, the ravioli, the gnocchi, and the tortellini are equally delicious. There is no such thing as ordering the wrong thing at La Baracca, as everything is molto buono!
4. M Mason
Mason has been a food hotspot in Canggu for years. Taking the same Mediterranean-inspired ambiance and dishes to Uluwatu, Mason hasn’t lost its magic. Wood-fired grilled dishes like Lamb Kleftiko and 48-hour Slow-Cooked Short Rib are the stars at Mason. With the open kitchen concept, prepare yourself with the way the kitchen staff prepares your meals.
Mason’s sister restaurant in Uluwatu takes a minimalist yet refined approach, similar to the one in Canggu. With a semi-open seating area and an outdoor garden, it is a casual dining spot that maintains its Balinese vibe by having tropical plants surrounding it. If you want to explore Uluwatu restaurants, we highly recommend Mason.
5. Bartolo
Bringing French sophistication to Uluwatu, Bartolo is the sister restaurant of Lulu Bitrot in Canggu. If you’re planning a romantic dinner or want to experience French dining in Uluwatu, there is no place better than Bartolo. Simple yet sophisticated, every dish is meticulously curated and plated to perfection at Bartolo to elevate your dining.
The classic beef bourguignon or Chicken fricassée shows why French cooking is still the benchmark in the cuisine world. Pair your meals with a glass of white wine or Punch Maracudja, one of Bartolo’s signature cocktails, and your dinner will surely be remembered. One of the best places to eat in Uluwatu, Bartolo, remains a hidden gem you simply need to discover!
Uluwatu has grown into more than a surfer’s paradise in the last couple of years. The diversity of the dining scene has made Uluwatu an attractive destination. Next time you find yourself wondering about where to eat, Uluwatu may not be a bad idea after all.
Outside Seminyak, Canggu, Nusa Dua, and Ubud where you can find one of the best Seafood Restaurants in Bali, which have been known as the foodie paradise, Uluwatu may be next on the list. The stunning limestone formations and the sprawling view of the Indian Ocean have been Uluwatu’s most prominent characteristics. Now with the variety of restaurants and cafes, Uluwatu is undoubtedly becoming the hottest destination in Bali.
